The Problem Explained

History and Initial Problem?
What Amanda thought it was.

"I knew I wasn’t happy about how I felt about my business. It felt like a ball and chain around my ankle. I was afraid I was not going to be able to look after myself in retirement.

"How can I make this business work for me so I can retire with enough money? I really couldn’t see it and I was in panic. I wasn't sleeping properly and I was putting a lot of pressure on myself."

Amanda had trouble trusting people because she didn't have the confidence to back her own judgements and make strong decisions. This created increased levels of stress and anxiety, as well as self-doubt which perpetuated the problems.

She also had a great deal of resistance on the topic of money which lead to her to being unwilling to confront that area of her business (ignoring the accounting/budgeting side of things).

It was a feeling of overwhelm on the business side of things, and that I really never made time for a social life. I felt trapped by my business.

There was anxiety, which leads to feeling unwell in general. So then there were concerns of 'how am I going to run a business when I feel this way' which in turn created more anxiety. I was disappointed in myself. I thought that I could have, should have, needed to be doing better.

Why I felt resistance hiring a business coach?

That it was expensive, how was I going to pay for this, what if my business didn’t get the results to cover the cost? I’ve done work before and still have problems, what’s wrong with me? Also what I got before was very generic - a group 'one-size-fits-all' coaching.

What got her to take the first step?

The way Katie described what she did. I’ve heard other coaches speak about what they do, but this was different. I was in a networking group with Katie and each week kept listening to her and the way she spoke about what she did, and finally sat down to have a conversation with her. She wasn’t telling me anything, she was asking me questions and listening to me. That’s not an experience I’ve had a lot.

What did Amanda like about ABA's or Mike's initial approach?

It wasn’t a selling approach. It wasn’t “here’s what you’re gonna get, and are we gonna do it now?!?!” It was a conversation all about me, and in the conversation I felt like I was going to get value. It was very relaxed.

Wow, what an incredible discovery session. Mike wasn't selling to me, he was analysing me. He helped me identify my problems, and showed me that there is a solution.

I never felt under pressure, we looked at the situation together. It was a conversation all about me, and in the conversation, I felt like I was going to get value. It was very relaxed, and Mike at all times, felt like someone I could trust to prioritise me above all else... and he did.

Taking a test to reveal things about your personality is confronting. Mike did a great job of putting me at ease, and while it was confronting, I was more excited about what I could unlock if I understood what was holding me back. When I saw how I was doing things, and my process of decision making, it was a 'light-bulb moment.' I thought: “No wonder I can’t get a decent business going.”

It was really cool to have that moment of clarity. I was worried to begin with because I didn’t think I could afford Mike's services. However, when Mike broke my options down, it was much easier and more palatable than I thought. Not only did ABA's services fit into my budget, but the results we generated paid back that investment many times over, and the results started almost immediately.

Absolutely incredible! I’ve never had coaching sessions like that before and I was really surprised that it really was all about me and the subtle things the videos covered and how they related to my life. I became more aware and applied what I learned immediately. I knew that practice was how I would get better, so I had small and continued breakthroughs throughout.

I was feeling so much better. I think my life was starting to make sense and I loved that I could rewatch the videos any time I wanted. I was having much better conversations with people around me, in my family and in my life. I felt more confident in myself, I started to get more work done.

I’ve had almost a 200% increase in business and I no longer fear looking after myself in retirement as a single person.

As a result of the workshop, I have stronger relationships, which has directly improved my sales results. It's amazing what staying present in a meeting has done for me. It is like a superpower that has been unlocked.

The big impact on sales came when I realised I was focusing on things that don't matter. For example, I used to think real estate agents look a certain way and act a certain way, so I had to be like that. As a result, I wasn't authentic in my conversations, and people notice this. When I let that go my business, my personal life became easier and opened up for me.

I’ve got so many more sales now because I’m relaxed and being myself in a sales presentation. And that is a direct result of the work I’ve done with ABA. Before that, I was locked into the way I thought it “had” to be. It turns out it’s all about these tools that, when you practice, it just opens up communication for me and increased my ability to listen.

I would have been happy to pay more than I did for that workshop.

It’s made a HUGE difference to my business and my life, and I can see it every day. I can see something that I’ve learned and practiced and how much I’ve evolved and changed. Life was a grind before, and it was exhausting. And I would talk myself into being exhausted and sick of my business.

I met with a friend recently and they said “OMG! You’ve got so many sales! Last time I talked to you you didn’t want to do sales.” And they were right, back then I didn’t. But the way that I handle sales, and offer my services for sales has changed completely, and I’m loving it. I love doing my work.
